Z. Morley Mao named Fellow of the ACM

Professor Z. Morley Mao has been named a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the organization’s highest and most prestigious member grade. Only the top 1% of ACM members are recognized for this honor, and are chosen based on their record of outstanding accomplishments in computing and information technology.

Mao’s research centers around networks, mobile and distributed systems, and security. Her recent projects include enhancing the security and reliability of connected and automated vehicles, resolving networking issues in data cellular and mobile cloud computing networks, and more.

At U-M, Mao leads the RobustNet research group, which investigates mobile phone networks, autonomous vehicle networks and sensors, aircraft deployed networks, cyber manufacturing, enterprise, and other wireless networks.

Mao came to U-M in 2004 after completing her PhD at the University of California Berkeley in 2003. She was named a Morris Wellman Development Professor from 2008-2010 and was awarded the George J. Huebner, Jr. Research Excellence Award by the College of Engineering in 2017. Mao was named an IEEE Fellow in 2022 for her contributions to the performance and security of internet routing and mobile systems. She is also the recipient of an NSF CAREER Award, a Sloan Foundation Fellowship, and the IBM Faculty Partnership Award.
